The Park Attwood clinic

WELCOME

Welcome to the Park Attwood website, which will introduce you to us and our philosophy of care. The clinic was founded in 1978, is a not-for-profit organisation and treats people with a wide range of illnesses and life challenges including treatment for cancer. The clinic provides both in-patient and out-patient care.

an integrated approach

Park Attwood is a doctor-led clinic, which integrates conventional and complementary approaches, practising a form of health care known as anthroposophic medicine. At Park Attwood, patients' existing medical care is supported and extended by a range of complementary therapies and natural remedies (rhythmical massage, hydrotherapy, art therapy, eurythmy, mistletoe therapy and counselling) which are individually tailored to address their needs.

Although many patients contact Park Attwood directly, the clinic also receives referrals from health professionals working both within the NHS and the private sector. Some patients are able to obtain NHS funding, and the clinic currently holds contracts, or service level agreements (SLAs), with two Primary Care Trusts (PCT) to treat NHS patients in their areas. See coming here and funding treatment for more details.

philosophy of care

Park Attwood's approach recognises that:

  • life has meaning and purpose - this underpins our health and quality of life
  • illness may provide opportunities for positive change and a new balance in our lives
  • each individual can take an active role in their own healing process
  • natural medicines can complement the use of conventional drug treatments
  • additional therapies can complement medical care to address health holistically

a unique service

The clinic, which is unique in the English-speaking world, attracts patients from all over the UK and abroad. The testimonials or quotes at the bottom of most pages describe the experiences of some of those who have been cared for here.

"Park Attwood demands and offers something completely different. It presents an opportunity to confront yourself and your illness. It can be incredibly difficult, - any distraction is preferable to shining a light on yourself. It can be lonely - but you are not alone. The therapists, nurses and doctors all seem to have enough time for you; with empathy and sensitivity you are held through each crisis - towards a deeper understanding. For those of us lucky enough to find Park Attwood it is the most creative way we have of approaching our illness."
